About Us

Guardia Roja is a DFW-based percussion ensemble with an emphasis on the rhythms of South America. Guardia Roja currently plays batucada (African influenced Brazilian percussion) at the FC Dallas games in Frisco from March through October.
Many associate batucada with the infectious grooves of the samba parades since the bateria (percussion section) in the samba parades play similar patterns. Samba and batucada is most common in Brazil but is played all over the world. Our group consists of beginning to advanced percussionists with diverse musical and cultural backgrounds, and others who want a South American-style futbol experience.
We currently use the following instruments:
Surdo
Caixa
Repinique
Tamborim
Cochalho
Agogo
Batucada (and rhythm in general) can be as easy as you want it to be. Do you tap your pencil at work/school? Do you tap your feet when you hear a good song? Can you count to 4? Can you feel your heartbeat? Can you walk with a reasonably steady rhythm? If you answered yes to any one of these questions, you have the basic ability to play percussion! You also need.the desire to play, the desire to learn, time to practice, and an instrument.
If you are interested in learning more about batucada, attend one of the Guardia Roja/FC Dallas pre-game events in the Blue Lot by the East Gate at Pizza Hut Park approximately 2 hours before the FC Dallas game. Guardia Roja will accommodate drummers of all abilities.
We are looking for:
Drummers - Beginning, intermediate, and advanced percussionists should attend rehearsals or pre-game events to become familiar with basic rhythms and techniques
We are also looking for:
Event Coordinators - Help distribute information, post bulletins, help coordinate event day activities
Media Developers - capture and prepare audio/video files for publication and distribution
